The foundation investigation shall consist of borings, test pits, and other subsurface explorations as deemed necessary. These investigations shall be performed so as to define the soil and rock stratigraphy and the groundwater conditions to the satisfaction of the chief. Laboratory testing of the undisturbed and remolded soil specimens, and rock samples shall be required by the chief, unless the applicant can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the chief that these analyses are not necessary.
