3301-30-01 Ohio department of youth services' schools.

The Ohio department of youth services shall assure that students in schools under the jurisdiction of the Ohio department of youth services receive a general education of high quality. The schools under the jurisdiction of the Ohio department of youth services shall comprise the Ohio department of youth services (ODYS) school district.

(A) The ODYS school district and schools under jurisdiction of the Ohio department of youth services shall assure that students are provided a general education of high quality by showing compliance with rules 3301-35-01 through 3301-35-07 , 3301-35-09 , 3301-35-11 , 3301-35-13 , and 3301-35-14 of the Administrative Code, except that:

(1) The role and responsibilities that apply under the above-referenced rules to a local board of education shall be carried out by the ODYS school district or by the Ohio department of youth services;

(2) The ODYS school district may exclude a student's participation in a course, program, field trip, or activity that involves travel outside of the ODYS school district or that involves a student's participation in or enrollment in distance learning or a course, program, or activity other than those offered by the ODYS school district;

(3) The ODYS school district may limit, as it deems appropriate, the district's interaction or communication with parents of students enrolled in the ODYS school district and with the communities in which the district's schools are located; and

(4) The ODYS school district is exempt from requirements that apply to grade levels not included in the ODYS schools.

(B) An ODYS school that does not meet the requirements set forth in paragraph (A) of this rule shall be subject to the provisions of paragraphs (C) and (D) of rule 3301-35-11 of the Administrative Code.
