3358:11-2-01 General admission policy.

(A) Owens community college is a state-assisted institution, and therefore, observes open admission . . High school graduation is not a requirement for admission. Admission to the college does not guarantee direct admission to a particular course or academic program.

(B) Implementation. The office of the provost will implement procedures, guidelines and forms which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.

3358:11-2-06 Assessment program for entering students policy.

(A) Purpose. Assessment determines the level of academic readiness needed for a student to be successful in college. This rule supports the process of evaluating students' academic skills for proper course placement. The information obtained during the assessment process is crucial to the proper advising of students in course selection in order to provide educational experiences that strengthen and enhance current levels of competence.

(B) Implementation. The office of the provost will implement procedures, guidelines and forms, which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.

3358:11-2-11 Enrollment status policy.

(A) Purpose. Enrollment status is determined by the official number of credit hours for which a student is enrolled each semester.

3358:11-2-12 Auditing courses policy.

(A) Purpose . A student may audit a course . To audit means to enroll for a reason other than to receive a course grade and credit.

3358:11-2-13 Initial registration and adding a course policy.

(A) Purpose. Students may initially register or add a course to their schedule in accordance with the procedures. .

3358:11-2-14 Course withdrawal policy.

(A) Purpose. A student may withdraw from a course according to the procedures established by the office of the provost.

3358:11-2-21 Catalog of record policy.

(A) Purpose. A student's program requirements are those found in the catalog of record at the time of admittance to the college. A student's catalog of record may change when a student declares a new program of study, or withdraws and then re-enters a program of study, or enters into a selective admissions program.

3358:11-2-22 Age of coursework policy.

(A) Purpose. The philosophy of Owens community college is to accept courses satisfying degree and certificate requirements without regard to length of the time since completion of the course, except when otherwise determined by the academic program.

3358:11-2-23 Prerequisites and corequisites policy.

(A) Purpose. Prerequisite and corequisite requirements are designed to assist a student to be successful in classes. A course specified as a corequisite is a course that must be taken either with or prior to the course requiring the corequisite. A course specified as a prerequisite is a course that must be completed prior to the beginning of the course requiring the prerequisite.

(B) Implementation. The chief academic officer will implement procedures, guidelines, and forms, which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.

3358:11-2-24 Course substitution policy.

(A) Purpose. Under special circumstances, a student may request the substitution of a different course for a required course within an academic program. All general education requirements must still be met. A course considered for substitution must be of similar classification to the required course.

3358:11-2-25 Repeating a course policy.

(A) Purpose. A student may repeat a course regardless of the previous grade received.

3358:11-2-31 Course outline and syllabus.

(A) Purpose. The college requires that a course outline and syllabus for every course offered be on file.

(B) Course outline guidelines. The course outline is a general statement defining the course, listing its description, objectives, evaluation and content and should contain the following information:

(1) Course name.

(2) Course number.

(3) Credits (lecture and lab).

(4) Prerequisites.

(5) Catalog description.

(6) History of textbooks used.

(7) Objectives (general, specific, behavioral).

(8) Course content/tentative timetable.

(C) Syllabus guidelines. The syllabus is a detailed description of the course outline and information the student needs to know, i.e., instructor's name, office hours, and daily lecture topics and should contain the following information:

(1) Course name.

(2) Course number.

(3) Credits (lecture and lab).

(4) Prerequisites.

(5) Current textbook.

(6) Instructor's name.

(7) Office hours.

(8) Office phone number.

(9) Home phone number (optional).

(10) Objectives.

(11) Reading assignments (required).

(12) General rules.

(13) Assignments calendar.

(14) Labs - listing and assignment.

(15) Lecture topics by days or subjects.

(16) Test and final examination schedule.

(17) Grading procedures.

(18) Resource speakers (if applicable).

(19) Field trips (if applicable).

3358:11-2-32 Grading system policy.

(A) Purpose. The college will use a letter grading system for evaluation of students' achievements in their courses.

3358:11-2-41 Outstanding academic achievement and recognition policy.

(A) Purpose. The college shall recognize students' outstanding academic achievements in a given semester and upon graduation.

3358:11-2-42 Academic probation policy.

(A) Purpose. Academic probation status serves as official notification that a student is not making acceptable progress as evidenced by cumulative grade point average. Continuation of academic probation for a third semester may result in academic dismissal.

(A) Purpose. A student is subject to academic dismissal upon unacceptable progress toward graduation on a continual basis.

(A) Purpose. A student desiring readmission to the college following academic dismissal must apply for academic readmission.

3358:11-2-45 Academic forgiveness policy.

(A) Purpose. A student may request academic forgiveness; a means, by which under certain circumstance, a student's grade point average can be adjusted.

(B) Implementation. The chief academic officer will outline the circumstances, criteria and eligibility requirements and implement the procedures for awarding academic forgiveness, which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.

3358:11-2-51 Graduation requirements policy.

(A) Purpose. A student is eligible to become a candidate for an associate degree or a certificate when the student has completed all requirements as established by the office of the provost.

(A) Purpose. A student may be eligible to receive more than one degree. A student may be eligible to graduate with more than one major.

3358:11-2-54 Grade appeal policy.

(A) Purpose. Owens community college provides a process of appeal in the event that a student disagrees with a course grade . .

(B) Appeals. A grade appeal may be initiated for the reason of: if there is a computational error of a grade; or, if the student was graded differently than stated in the syllabus or assignment; or, if the student was graded differently than class peers.

(C) Application. This rule applies to all students in credit courses including developmental education courses.

(D) Implementation. The chief academic officer will implement procedures and forms, which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.

3358:11-2-55 Academic misconduct policy.

(A) Purpose. Owens community college seeks to maintain a learning environment where students are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and honesty, both personally and professionally. The following standards are outlined and are promulgated in the associated procedures of this rule.

(1) Defines expected behavior.

(2) Articulates prohibited behavior.

(3) Describes the disciplinary process.

(4) Outlines possible sanctions.

(5) Provides an opportunity for appeal.

(B) Application: This rule applies to all students.

(C) Implementation. The office of the provost will implement procedures, guidelines and forms, which are consistent with the provisions of this rule.
