3701-15-04 Tuberculin testing and examination in schools.

(A) Newly employed teachers, school bus drivers and other school employees shall:

(1) Present documented evidence of having a negative tuberculin test as defined by the “American Thoracic Society” (“Mantoux Test 5 TU PPD” preferred) within ninety days before their first work day; or

(2) If a positive reactor, have a chest x-ray and any other medical and laboratory examinations deemed necessary by the school physician or the board of health of the health district to determine the absence of tuberculosis in a communicable state within ninety days before their first day of work.

(B) Currently employed teachers, school bus drivers and other school employees who become known to have converted a tuberculin skin test from negative to positive as defined by the “American Thoracic Society” shall:

Have a chest x-ray and any other medical and laboratory examinations deemed necessary by the school physician or the board of health of the health district to determine that the absence of tuberculosis in a communicable state as provided for under sections 3313.71 and 3313.72 of the Revised Code.

(C) Determination as to need and frequency of tuberculin testing and other appropriate examinations of pupils shall be at the discretion of the board of health of the health district in which each school is located.

(D) Boards of education shall submit annual summary reports of tuberculosis examinations to the board of health of the district in which each school is located on forms prescribed by the director of the Ohio department of health. Such boards of health shall maintain such records and make same available to the Ohio department of health upon request of the director of health.
