4765-18-10 Special topic instructor.

(A) Effective February 1, 2009, the board shall no longer issue a certificate to teach as a special topic instructor.

(B) An individual holding a current and valid certificate to teach as a special topic instructor upon the effective date of this rule, can provide instruction in an EMS training program and/or EMS continuing education program for one year or until the individual's special topic instructor certificate expires, whichever comes first. An individual may only teach in the five substantive topic areas previously approved.

(C) An individual holding a current and valid certificate to teach as a special topic instructor upon the effective date of this rule, has until March 1, 2010 to apply for a certificate to teach as an EMS instructor, assistant EMS instructor, or continuing education instructor.

(D) No later than March 1, 2010, an individual holding a current and valid certificate to teach as a special topic instructor upon the effective date of this rule, may upgrade to an assistant EMS instructor by utilizing the following process.

(1) Submits a completed application as approved by the board;

(2) Possesses a current and valid certificate to practice as an EMS provider or holds a current and valid Ohio license to practice as a registered nurse or a physician assistant;

(3) Satisfies the requirements for a certificate to practice as set forth in paragraphs (A)(6) to (A)(12) of rule 4765-8-01 of the Administrative Code;

(4) Completes ten hours of supervised teaching in the presence of an EMS instructor under the auspices of an accredited institution;

(5) Passes the practical examination for the individual's level of certification, within the preceding three years;

(6) Completes the eight hours in instruction specific to the field of emergency medical services.

(E) No later than March 1, 2010, an individual holding a current and valid certificate to teach as a special topic instructor upon the effective date of this rule, may apply for a certificate to teach as a continuing education instructor by utilizing the following process:

(1) Submits a completed application as approved by the board

(2) Satisfies the requirements for a certificate to practice as set forth in paragraphs (A)(6) to (A)(12) of rule 4765-8-01 of the Administrative Code;

(3) Possesses a current and valid certificate to practice as an EMS provider or holds a current and valid Ohio license to practice as a registered nurse or a physician assistant;

(F) An individual holding a certificate to teach as a special topic instructor who wishes to upgrade to an EMS instructor shall meet all requirements set forth in rule 4765-18-05 of the Administrative Code.
