4765-20-01 Initial renewal of active fire instructor certification.

(A) Any person, who currently possesses a certificate to teach as a fire instructor shall be required to submit an application for renewal of the holder’s certificate of fire instructor on a form and in a manner approved by the executive director, within twelve months of the effective date of this rule.

(B) The executive director, with advice and counsel of the committee, shall issue a fire instructor certificate to an applicant who is not also certified as a first responder or EMT, with the following certification cycles:

(1) For those applicants whose date of birth is in the months of January, April, July, or October, a certificate of fire instructor will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date of birth in the first year of certification;

(a) No continuing education pursuant to Chapter 4765-21 of the Administrative Code will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.

(2) For those applicants whose date of birth is in the months of February, May, August or November, a certificate of fire instructor will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date of birth in the second year of certification;

(a) Two hours of continuing education pursuant to Chapter 4765-21 will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.

(3) For those applicants whose date of birth is in the months of March, June, September or December, a certificate of fire instructor will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date in the third year of certification;

(a) Four hours of continuing education pursuant to Chapter 4765-21 of the Administrative Code will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.

(C) The executive director, with advice and counsel of the committee, shall issue a fire instructor certificate to an applicant who is also currently certified as a first responder or EMT. Such fire instructor certificate shall expire on the applicant’s birthday in the same year in which the applicant’s first responder or EMT certificate expires, with the following certification cycles:

(1) Less than twelve months, no continuing education is required to renew such applicants;

(2) More than twelve months but less than twenty four months, two hours of continuing education is required to renew such applicants;

(3) More than twenty four months but less than thirty six months, four hours of continuing education is required to renew such applicants.

(D) A person who fails to submit an application by twelve months is not eligible to function as a fire instructor and shall be subject to reinstatement as set forth in rule 4765-21-05 of the Administrative Code.
