4765-20-13 Options for firefighter continuing education.

(A) When applying for renewal of a volunteer firefighter or firefighter I certificate, an applicant has two options for meeting the continuing education requirements set forth in this chapter:

(1) An applicant who wishes to renew at the applicant’s current certification level shall complete and document in accordance with rule 4765-20-07 of the Administrative Code, fifty four hours of continuing education that is related to the fire service and approved by the applicant’s fire chief or program director. Such continuing education courses may be completed through in-service training programs conducted by the applicant’s affiliated fire department.

(2) An applicant who wishes, at the time of renewal, to upgrade to a firefighter certification level higher than the one currently held by the applicant must complete the appropriate number of continuing education hours as set forth in rule 4765-20-14 or 4765-20-15 of the Administrative Code.

(B) When applying for renewal of a firefighter II certificate, an applicant shall complete fifty four hours of continuing education that is related to the fire service and approved by the applicant’s a fire chief or program director.
