(A) Any person who currently possesses an Ohio firefighter certificate shall submit an application for renewal of the holder’s firefighter certificate of fire service training, on a form and in a manner approved by the executive director, within twelve months of the effective date of this rule.
(B) The executive director, with advice and counsel of the committee, shall issue a certificate of fire service training to an applicant who is not also certified as a first responder or EMT, with the following certification cycles.
(1) Any applicants whose date of birth is in the months of January, April, July, and October, a certificate of fire service training will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date of birth in the first year of certification.
No continuing education pursuant to this chapter will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.
(2) For those applicants whose date of birth is in the months of February, May, August or November, a certificate of fire service training will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date of birth in the second year of certification.
Eighteen hours of continuing education pursuant to this chapter will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.
(3) For those applicants whose date of birth is in the months of March, June, September or December a certificate of fire service training will be issued at the applicant’s current and active level of certification, and will expire on the applicant’s date of birth in the third year of certification.
Thirty six hours of continuing education pursuant to this chapter will be required for eligibility to renew such applicants.
(C) The executive director, with advice and counsel of the committee, shall issue a certificate of fire service training to an applicant who is also currently certified as a first responder or EMT. Such certificate of fire service training shall expire on the applicant’s birthday in the same year in which the applicant’s first responder or EMT certificate expires, with the following certification cycles:
(1) Less than twelve months, no continuing education is required to renew such applicants.
(2) More than twelve months but less than twenty four months, eighteen hours of continuing education is required to renew such applicants.
(3) More than twenty four months but less than thirty six months, thirty six hours of continuing education is required to renew such applicants.
(D) A person who fails to submit an application within twelve months of the effective date of this rule is not eligible to function as a firefighter and shall be subject to reinstatement as set forth in rule 4765-20-08 of the Administrative Code.
