4765-21-03 Qualifications for an instructor certificate.

(A) An applicant for a fire instructor certificate shall meet all the following requirements:

(1) Submit a completed "Fire Instructor, Assistant Fire Instructor and or Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Initial Application;"

(2) In the preceding seven years, have been certified for at least five years as a firefighter;

(3) Possess a current and valid firefighter certificate that is in good standing;

(4) Successfully pass the instructor knowledge examination as set forth in rule 4765-20-06 of the Administrative Code at the firefighter II level;

(5) Successfully complete a fire instructor training course as set forth in paragraph (A) of rule 4765-11-15 of the Administrative Code;

(6) Successfully pass the instructional methods examination, as set forth in rule 4765-20-06 of the Administrative Code;

(7) Comply with the requirements for a firefighter certificate as set forth in paragraphs (A)(5) to (A)(6) of rule 4765-20-02 of the Administrative Code.

(B) An applicant for an assistant fire instructor certificate shall meet all the following requirements:

(1) Submit a completed "Fire Instructor, Assistant Fire Instructor and or Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Initial Application;"

(2) In the preceding seven years, have been certified for at least five years as a firefighter;

(3) Possess a current and valid firefighter certificate that is in good standing;

(4) Successfully pass the instructor knowledge examination as set forth in rule 4765-20-06 of the Administrative Code at the firefighter I level.

(5) Comply with the requirements for a firefighter certificate as set forth in paragraphs (A)(5) to (A)(6) of rule 4765-20-02 of the Administrative Code;

(6) Successfully complete the four hour "Fire Service Training Module;"

(7) Successfully complete the four hour "Live Fire Training Awareness Course."

(C) An applicant for a fire instructor or assistant fire instructor certificate, who wishes to provide instruction in any live fire training courses, shall successfully complete the "Live Fire Training Operations Course" through a chartered program.

(D) A holder of a current and valid fire instructor or assistant fire instructor certificate upon the effective date of this rule, who wishes to provide instruction in any live a fire training courses shall be grandfathered from the requirements set forth in paragraph (C) of this rule provided the certificate does not expire and become subject to the reinstatement process for a fire instructor or assistant fire instructor certificate.

(E) An applicant for a fire safety inspector instructor certificate shall meet all of the following requirements:

(1) Submit a completed "Fire Instructor, Assistant Fire Instructor and or Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Initial Application;"

(2) In the preceding seven years, have been certified for at least five years as a fire safety inspector;

(3) Possess a current and valid fire safety inspector certificate that is in good standing;

(4) Successfully pass the instructor knowledge examination as set forth in rule 4765-20-06 of the Administrative Code at the fire safety inspector level;

(5) Successfully complete a fire safety inspector instructor training course as set forth in paragraph (A) of rule 4765-11-16 of the Administrative Code;

(6) Successfully pass the instructional methods examination, as set forth in rule 4765-20-06 of the Administrative Code.

(7) Comply with the requirements for a fire safety inspector certificate as set forth in paragraphs (A)(5) to (A)(6) of rule 4765-20-03 of the Administrative Code.

(F) A fire service instructor training certificate issued pursuant to this rule shall be issued in accordance with the certification cycles and pro-rated renewal requirements set forth in rule 4765-20-22 of the Administrative Code.

(G) An applicant shall complete all requirements for a fire service instructor certificate within two years of successful completion of the instructor knowledge examination.
