Rule 3769-4-50 | Track veterinarian.
(A) The track regulatory veterinarians will conduct a pre-race examination of every horse scheduled to start in a race that day.
(B) The trainer or a representative of the trainer has to present the horse for the pre-race examination. Horses have to have all bandages removed, and their legs need to be clean and dry. Horses may not be placed in ice until the regulatory veterinarian has completed the pre-race exam, and no device or substance may be applied to the horse that impedes the veterinarian's clinical assessment.
(C) The track regulatory veterinarian shall maintain a list of such horses which, in their opinion, are unfit for racing and shall report to the stewards on each horse entered for the day's races, stating whether it is or is not physically fit to race after all horses have been examined for that day's racecard.
(D) The veterinarian's list shall be posted in the racing secretary's office and kept updated on the applicable entry software. The list shall be kept current with the date a horse was placed on the veterinarian's list and, if applicable, the off date.
(E) A minimum of one regulatory veterinarian is to be present in the paddock during saddling, on the racetrack during the post parade and at the starting gate until the horses are dispatched from the starting gate for the race.
