This section shall apply only to a chartered nonpublic school that is not accredited through the independent school association of the central states.

(A) In lieu of the requirement prescribed by section 3313.618 of the Revised Code, a chartered nonpublic school to which this section applies may grant a high school diploma to a student who attains at least the designated score on an assessment approved by the department of education under division (B) of this section and selected by the school's governing authority.

(B) For purposes of division (A) of this section, the department shall approve assessments that meet the conditions specified under division (C) of this section and shall designate passing scores for each of those assessments.

(C) Each assessment approved under division (B) of this section shall be nationally norm-referenced, have internal consistency reliability coefficients of at least "0.8," be standardized, have specific evidence of content, concurrent, or criterion validity, have evidence of norming studies in the previous ten years, have a measure of student achievement in core academic areas, and have high validity evidenced by the alignment of the assessment with nationally recognized content.

(D) Nothing in this section shall prohibit a chartered nonpublic school to which this section applies from granting a high school diploma to a student if the student satisfies the requirement prescribed by section 3313.618 of the Revised Code.
