Section 3319.089 | Using work experience program participants.

The board of education of any city, local, or exempted village school district may adopt a resolution approving a contract with a county department of job and family services under section 5107.541 of the Revised Code to provide for a participant of the work experience program who has a child enrolled in a public school in that district to fulfill the work requirements of the work experience program by volunteering or working in that public school in accordance with section 5107.541 of the Revised Code. Such recipients are not employees of such board of education.

Before a school district places a participant in a public school under this section, the appointing officer or hiring officer of the board of education of a school district shall request a criminal records check of the participant to be conducted in the same manner as required for a person under section 3319.39 of the Revised Code. The records check shall be conducted even though the participant, if subsequently hired, would not be considered an employee of the school district for purposes of working at the school. A participant shall not be placed in a school if the participant previously has been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any of the offenses listed in division (B)(1)(a) or (b) of section 3319.39 of the Revised Code.
